Today, I went to the Eden Public library to borrow some exercise resources. There are so many diet and cook books! There are yoga books and tai chi books, but I found two that I wanted to sit down and read. I borrowed "Small changes Big Results" which had a ton of recipes and suggestions. I also borrowed, "The Step Diet Book" by Hill Peters and Jortberg, which I found most helpful. I got a lot out of SDB. The author instructs the reader to keep a food journal and track steps. He/she constantly encourages long-term changes for long-term results. I'd strongly recommend the Step Diet Book. It inspired me to want a step counter. I've never used one in my life and don't really find them to be accurate, but it would be interesting to borrow or rent a step counter for a week. If I bought one, I'd donate it when I was done experimenting with it.
After browsing books, I skipped over to the DVD section for workout videos. Videos are a 1 week rental whereas books are 3 weeks. There were about 8 options, but I restricted myself to two. "Dancing with the stars: Cardio dance" wasn't too cheesy, but the moves were not rehearsed. You're expected, as a die hard fan, to know them. I'd probably like this if I enjoyed the show. I also borrowed "Burn Fat Fast with Denise Austin." Denise burns fat fast by marching in place, lifting the arms, moving the hips, and marching some more. I found her attitude to be that of a less-entertaining Richard Simmons, false perky. I can march my butt downstairs and use my treadmill. I don't need this crap!
I bought "Dance it off! With Jennifer Galardi" for a dollar at goodwill, but I haven't tried it yet. After 20 minutes of marching in place and trying to keep up with the stars, I have a bad mindset against workout videos now. There are a bunch of Dalphina belly dancing videos somewhere in the basement that never made me feel as stupid as Denise Austin or the star instructors. Jennifer is just going to have to wait for a day or two.
