One more day of treadmill, uphill, speed walking, with weights. I have considered doing two 15 minute walks a day, but I know that I can push myself to do the 30 minutes. I read this article to see how breaking my time in two blocks might affect my workout
http://www.shapefit.com/exercise/cardio-questions-walking-once-or-twice-day.html
According to the article, it is better to speed-play for 30 minutes than to break the 30 minute time into two equal parts. The article says that one should get 30-60 minutes of walking in, per day, 5 times a week. I have toyed with the idea of doing two 30 minute walks a day - one in the morning and one at night. This is reasonable for me to accommodate time-wise and quite possible for my physically. I think I will start aiming to do two walks a day from now on, when time allows. If I maintain one walk a day while doing other activities, I'll still be guaranteed to get my suggested amount.
I am a night owl, but I don't know how physical activity will affect my ability to sleep. I do know that, after a strenuous morning exercise, my endurance in other strenuous activities (like skating and biking) is a little slower. My plan is not to just walk for 30 minutes a day and call it exercise anymore. I want to walk 30 minutes out of habit every morning and then maybe at 50% max speed in the evening if I don't do any other physical activity during the day. I need a star chart for my treadmill, as cheesy and child-like as that sounds.
My bf and I are going to Sears tomorrow to look at elliptical machines. He's also going to help me with my weight training. I'm going to stop by Walmart to get a pedometer if they have any in stock because I want to track my steps and try to increase them each day. I also want to buy a hula hoop. Why a hula hoop, you might ask? Let me show you a link:
This is SO wicked cool! People who know me personally know that I'm open to things like belly dancing and pole exercise. If a hula hoop can help me to improve my core balance and strength, looking cool is just another benefit. Hey, it can't hurt. I'm going to go ahead and give it a try.
PS I did an intense 30 minute walk. I probably shouldn't do that again, as I almost tripped. I was jogging for two minutes to beat last night's one minute. Then, when I was wiping my face with a towel, I almost tripped. I sort of lost track of where I was for a half of a second. That's bad news! No hard core evening walks for me anymore unless its the only walk I, doing for that day.
